MOT Northwich - A Legal Requirement

MOT Centre Northwich

Everyone who uses a vehicle on the road must keep it in a roadworthy condition. The MOT test checks that vehicles meet road safety and environmental standards. The first MOT test for a vehicle is required when it is three years old and carried out up to 1 month before it is due.

An MOT test ensures your vehicle meets the minimum road safety standard. It's designed to keep you and other road users safe and your insurance isn't valid if you don't have an MOT certificate.

MOT while you wait

One of our approved testers will carry out your vehicle's MOT while you wait (it takes around 45 minutes). Or, we can give you a courtesy lift so that you can carry on with your day while we're taking care of your vehicle

We carry out MOT tests on these classes of vehicle:

  • Cars - class 4
  • Mini buses - class 5 up to 5,000kg
  • Goods vehicles up to 3,500 kg - class 7

We'll test the following aspects of your vehicle when we do an MOT:

  • Driving controls
  • Exterior
  • Lights
  • Under the bonnet
  • Under the vehicle
  • Brake performance
  • Exhaust emissions

Clear explanations

Our testers have lots of technical experience. If your vehicle fails, they can explain why and show you the areas causing any problems. We can also fix the problems usually straight after the MOT once we have your approval.

When we've completed your MOT, we'll give you a list of anything that's wrong with your vehicle. We'll be very clear on which of these items are essential for ensuring it's roadworthy and which can wait.

Any additional items that we list are provided just for your information. We'll give you guidance on whether it would be advisable to have them done now or how long you could wait before attending to them.

Vehicle Maintenance

Lights and levels

Due to extended service intervals, it can be up to twelve months between visits to your service centre. It's therefore critical that you carry out regular maintenance checks on your vehicle to ensure your oil and coolant levels are correct, your washer bottle is full and all lights are working correctly.

Tyre checks

Remember to check your tyres too. When checking tyre pressures, always refer to the owner's manual. Ensure there's plenty of tread and no signs of balding or scrubbing on the edges. If there is, it could mean that your vehicle needs realigning or a rubber suspension bush is worn and needs attention. Have a look at the side of the tyres too for cracks, bulges or cuts that could result in a high speed blow out.

We'll check for you

If you're unsure how to check these items yourself, just pop in when it suits you. We'll either show you how to do it, or one of our technicians will do these checks for you for free to ensure you have peace of mind at all times.
